FUNCTIONS OF SPORTS DEPARTMENT

In the field of sports, the basic objective is to expand sports facilities for the benefit of the majority of the people in the province of Sindh.

The development of sports facilities has remained confined to the developed urban centers and it was considered necessary to provide public funds for modest Sports club, complexes and stadium in the less developed areas of the provinces, particularly in small towns and districts.

The adopted caption for Sports is “Sports Breed Healthy Society”.

The Department is also providing funds to Sports Association for organizing of different sports event throughout the province.

Different sports activities are also organized by the department to promote men & women sports in the province of Sindh and to pursue more representation of players of Sindh in national teams.

Special attention is to promote the traditional games of Sindh like Malakhara, Wanjwatti, Kodi Kodi, Donkey Cart Race, Bull Cart Race, Wrestling etc.

Promotion of all types of Sports.

Reviving traditional sports of Sindh.

Efforts to promote socio-economic aspect of games.

Holding of Sindh Games each year.

Grants to poor and deserving sportspersons.

Promoting the name of the Government department through activities and collaboration with various associations / institutions.

Introducing culture of incentives to winners through cash prizes, shields and other modes of recognition.

Steps taken to involve entire society in sports.

Organization of sports events on National Days, Labor Day, Kashmir Day.

Promotion of Sports and holding of events for U/16 and U/14 level in order to develop players for the future.

Promotion of female sports.

Sponsorship to associations and teams for participation in national, inter-provincial and international tournaments.

Support to disabled sportspersons.

Special attention to promote sports and sports facility in various districts of Sindh.

Cash awards for performers / winners of National and International competitions in order to induce youngsters to take part in healthy activities.

Special emphasis on traditional games.

Functions (Youth)

Youth plays a crucial role in the economy for viable growth and overall progress of the country.

Current percentage of youth population in the country is around 60% of the total population. Most of this population is energetic and has innovative ideas, dynamism and vision.

The strategy for Youth Development is to emphasize involvement of NGOs and institutions in promoting:

–  non-formal education.

–  skill development.

–  Co-operations.

–  Recreation.

–  community services.

Active participation from youth organization is promoted to organize; Seminars, workshops and conferences all over the province.

Holding of seminars and workshops on entrepreneurship in various Universities / Institutions of Sindh for raising awareness about entrepreneurship in youth in order to reduce burden on public sector employment

Holding Youth Festivals to develop creative abilities of youth and to provide them with a forum to express them.

Developing tolerance and understanding among youth through consultative and interactive sessions.

Organizing Inter-provincial youth exchange programme to generate provincial harmony and integration.
