CHIEF MINISTER SINDH MESSAGE

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has said that peace restored in Karachi allows sports, arts and literary events to flourish. He was speaking at the First Commissioner Karachi Marathon organised at the Moin Khan Academy on Sunday. The event’s host, Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani and Home Secretary Kazi Kabir were present on the occasion.

Shah said that during the deplorable law and order conditions that had persisted in the city for over a decade, all healthy activities and cultural events had suffered. He credited the Pakistan Army and Rangers along with the police for restoring peace in the city. “This year, five Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches will be played in the city which shows the confidence of the international community in the city,” he added.

Amid jokes and pleasantries, Shah congratulated Shallwani and his team for organising such an event after a gap of thirty years. “This is the start of marathon events and next year, this event will be organised with greater vigour and higher participation,” he said, adding that he will participate in the next marathon as well.

He thanked the sponsors and encouraged them to continue supporting such activities. “This city has given us a lot and now we have to pay it back together and turn it into one of the most prosperous and peaceful city, which is beautiful and a centre of learning,” he said.

Talking to media, the chief minister said that not only sports and other healthy activities have increased in the city, but trade and businesses were also flourishing.

Replying to a question, expressed his optimism for the success of the upcoming PSL events. He said that stringent security measures will be taken for PSL matches which may cause problems for people but it will be his priority to cause minimum inconvenience. “This is our event, every resident of Karachi will be the host of PSL players, participants and organisers, therefore inconvenience will not make any difference,” he added.
